the vote for a collective agreement begins on Monday

The process will be led by the Canadian Council for Industrial Relations and will take place from July 21 to August 1.

The holding of a ballot, first refused by the Syndicate of Posts Workers (STTP), was finally imposed last June by the Minister of Employment, Patty Hajdu.

If a majority of members of the urban unit as well as rural and suburban factors (FFRS) decide in favor of the offers presented to their unit, these will act as collective agreements, which will end the negotiations in progress for 19 months.

An expected vote

At the end of May, The right reported that votes amounted against the union. Seeing the financial situation of Canada Posts worsening and dreading to lose their jobs, factors were urging the union to let them rule on their employer’s final offers.

In recent weeks, the STTP has multiplied communications encouraging its members to vote “no”. More than 70 units across the country have adopted resolutions to recommend that their members reject the offers.

If the offers are refused, the union has committed to return to the negotiating table, and not to take “any other strike measure” than that of overtime during the discussions.

In parallel, Posts Canada boasts of presenting its “best offers” and recalls that the financial situation of the Crown company continues to deteriorate, saying that it has recorded losses of almost $ 10 million per day in June.
