It is a barely believable story, and yet very real. On July 23, Jean, a resident of Mont-de-Marsan, in the southwest of France, had an experience to say the least.
This 20 -year -old young man was waiting for his turn to pass a blood alcohol test, compulsory before taking up his post, like all of his colleagues. “”While waiting for my turn, I ate one of the two madeleines that I had brought that morning“, he told our colleagues South West.
But when he blows in the breathalyzer, the result is final: Jean is tested positive for alcohol. “”I never drank a drop of alcohol in my life“, Ensures the Landais. Very quickly, he establishes a link between this result and the madeleine he had just eaten. His superior has trouble believing it. Fifteen minutes later, after having lavished his teeth and having drunk half a liter of water, John returns the test: this time, he is negative.

At the end of his day, still intrigued, Jean went to the police station to tell what happened to him. The police, first skeptical, decide to check for themselves. Two madeleines later, they submit to the test … and are also declared positive!
Solicited by our colleagues, the Spanish brand Arenas, which manufactures these madeleines, replied that they do not understand, saying that its products do not contain any alcohol. The cupcakes were sent in the laboratory for analysis.
