The remains of a victim of fires that ravaged Los Angeles in January were discovered, bringing the human balance sheet at least 31 people dead, more than six months after the start of fires, local authorities announced on Tuesday.

A team from the Legalist’s Legalist from Los Angeles “went yesterday (…) to Altadena”, a suburban city, “to investigate possible human remains found on the spot,” said a statement from this service.
The team “determined that the remains were very human”, and the results of the fires “is now 31” dead, added the service.
The fires that ravaged Los Angeles in January lasted several weeks. They initially spread very quickly because of strong winds, with gusts which sometimes reached 160 km/h.

The flames have notably destroyed a large part of the Pacific Palisades district, where many celebrities reside, and the city of Altadena.
An investigation is still in progress to determine how they started.
More than six months after this tragedy, the reconstruction of the affected areas represents a Dantesque site for the local authorities. More than 16,000 buildings were destroyed by flames, according to a report by Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.
