This family will have to live in a trailer for the second time after losing their accommodation

A family will have to live in a trailer for the second time in two years failing to have found affordable accommodation after losing their own.

“It put us down when we learned that we still lost our apartment. We live no more anxieties because we knew what we were going to, especially with the price of the accommodation currently. It’s crazy how expensive it is, ”deplores Keven Imbeault Pelletier, 35 years old.

In August 2024, he and his spouse, Johannie Bellemare Abalam, 32, lost their apartment, at the epiphany, who had been ravaged by impressive floods.

For three months, they lived in a trailer loaned by a friend with Clara, their girl now 2 years old. Their other daughter, Alexia, who was then 11 years old, had been relocated to her aunt.

On the street

And the same scenario is about to repeat itself. Because the owner of the accommodation they occupied for less than a year puts them outside.

At three months of opinion, she informed them that her son would move there on July 3 to help him with his health, explains the couple.

After checking with the administrative court of housing (TAL), “we learned that she should have given us six months of notice, but that it was too late to challenge since we had signed”, signs the one who works as a high pressure washer.

Two days to meet on the street, he and his spouse are short of options.

Exorbitant price

“All the owners do a credit survey, and ours is not very good, so we are refused everything,” worries Mr. Imbeault Pelletier.

Because the price of apartments is exorbitant. Even if the rent 6 1⁄ they had lived since October was below the market price, the couple spent about 70% of their income to pay it.

“There, the price of even smaller apartments is equivalent to 90% of our salary,” is alarmed by the one who has many mouths to feed.

In addition to the two children in which he is full, the couple has custody of two prejudices from previous unions one weekend in two.

“We’re still going to be lent for another trailer, it will be complicated,” he saddens.

Especially since his wife asked for social assistance since she left her job in a hardware store to take care of their youngest. “Our little casserole was born prematurely,” explains the father, out of breath.

Help

The couple asked for help from various organizations, even going so far as to write to their deputy, Prime Minister François Legault.

“Everyone starts the ball, I don’t know who can help us. We are really badly taken ”, discourages the dad who hopes to find an affordable apartment in Lanaudière to house his blended family there.

Contacted by The newspaperFrançois Legault’s team put the Quebec Society (SHQ) in contact with the couple to help them. The municipal residential office of the epiphany has relocated the family to the hotel for the night and “steps will continue in the coming days for permanent rehousing”.
