This well -known olive oil is the worst according to 60 million consumers - it contains plastic and oil

This inexpensive olive oil brand is very dangerous for health, according to 60 million consumers. The Institute noted only 7/20.

It is called “green gold”. Appreciated in salad, cooking and even in pastry, olive oil is one of the best allies of the cooks. Popular, but very expensive, the latter can be a real luxury in certain homes. To allow consumers not to spend all their money in poor quality oil bottles, the magazine 60 million consumers analyzed 22 brands present on the French market.

Composition, acidity, oxidation, conservation, contamination to plastics, aromas … Many aspects have been evaluated by a specialized jury. And the results were very clear. A bottle of olive oil stands out because it has largely satisfied the experts. Clean composition, absence of contaminants, a taste preserved over time, the extra virgin olive oil of the Leos brand, owned by singer Patrick Bruel, is considered the best on the market. The latter thus obtained the correct note of 15.4/20. His only downside? The price. A single liter of this precious liquid made in France costs almost 60 euros.

Conversely, another brand has disappointed experts, for many reasons. Eco +olive oil, which is discussed here, first of all contains a significant quantity of a plasticizer called phthalate. He is part of the family of endocrine disruptors. These molecules most often migrate tanks, tarpaulins, pipes used during storage or transport, as explained by 60 million consumers. However, the French magazine insists that European regulations prohibit the use of materials containing phthalates in the production chain. “It is clear that the manufacturers seem to ignore it,” ironize the experts.

Unfortunately, the olive oil of the first price brand of Leclerc is also “the most soiled” by mosh (hydrocarbons saturated with mineral oils) and the MOAH (aromatic hydrocarbons of mineral oil), components derived from oil, “used in particular as lubricants for engine”, underlines 60 million consumers. The latter contains 10 mg of moah/kg “or five times more than the estimated limit acceptable by the European Union!”, Alert specialists again. Unfortunately, the Mosh and the Moah can accumulate in the liver and cause several kinds of cancers.

On the tasting side, the assessment is not more positive since the extra virgin eco + olive oil would have a taste of “mold, humidity and earth” once it ages. In terms of price, the product is one of the cheapest on the market since it costs € 9.49/l. “This study shows that a share of manufacturers does not ensure the quality of its olive oils from start to finish. We expect serious efforts on this sector,” concludes the magazine.
