Three models of ties were recalled from consumers and withdrawn from the market in Belgium following a European control campaign, due to the serious risks they presented for babies, the SPF Economy said on Wednesday.
In 2024, the European Commission launched a campaign concerning the security of teat and ties for babies. In Belgium, six tastin ties from online stores, distributors and producers have been checked. Among these products, five out of six did not meet technical requirements and three of them even presented a serious risk for the safety of babies.
Among the problems observed were too long cords, balls likely to detach, thus presenting a risk of suffocation, fixing clips not strong enough, or even elements that would tear too easily.
The three tourths presenting a serious risk were recalled from consumers and withdrawn from the market. A tetching displaying a high risk has also been removed from the shelves. Finally, an average risk-attine has been prohibited for sale. The manufacturer can therefore no longer sell these models to shops.
“Do not be deceived by a nice design: the object looks like a toy, but it must also meet the strictest requirements. It is therefore always necessary to examine the pacifier or the teeth-teety from everywhere, before each use, “said the spokesperson for the SPF Economy, Etienne Mignolet.
“Pull all sides and at the slightest sign of deterioration or fragility, get rid of the object. Make sure that the cords do not exceed 22 cm long and never hang other wires, ribbons or cords, “he adds.
Four nitches were also checked in Belgium. For their part, the latter have successfully passed all of the tests.
