A first chance to come forward for thunderstorms
July is coming to an end, but that certainly does not mean that the typical thunderstorms this month are ready to bow! The next 48 hours offer a very interesting playground for thunderstorms, but they plan to present themselves in different places and, above all, with a very distinct attitude. First, Sunday afternoon the energy begins to build itself in southern Quebec.
It must be said that with this overwhelming heat and the high wet index, it would have been surprised that there were no thunderstorms on the program! On Sunday, feelings could reach 40 for sectors in southern Quebec.
“Ordinary” thunderstorms
Quebec is increasingly used to violent thunderstorms. Thus, it looks like we forget that there are more “ordinary” and “classic” thunderstorms sometimes! It should however be the case this Sunday. “Thunderstorms could form in isolation, in the afternoon and evening. There is a lot of energy available in the atmosphere, but a dynamic of uprising at altitude is missing. General rule, the potential for violent thunderstorms is not really present on Sunday, ”explains Bertin Ossonon, meteorologist.
In summary, it is hot and a little unstable on Sunday, then showers or isolated thunderstorms could occur in a fairly large area of the province, especially for sectors in the south, even towards Saguenay. However, there is less chance that it bursts into violent thunderstorms. Note that because of the heat and the high wet index, if there are thunderstorms, it will be above all a case of heavy rain.
Monday: a more special case
All this leads us to the day on Monday … And there, on the other hand, things could be bodied, when it will be another type of thunderstorms awaiting regions of Quebec! Monday thunderstorms target northwestern province more. With the new system that comes, it could brew … Before landing in Quebec, this system is quite active on the side of Ontario. On Sunday, sectors are also under surveillance concerning a risk of tornadoes. The result in Quebec? For Monday, there will not only be energy, but also heat. “The front that will arise will allow an uprising of the air mass quickly. With this frontal area, there could be a few more violent storms on Monday in the afternoon and evening, for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue sectors, ”underlines Bertin Ossonon. Abundant rain, strong gusts and large harsh will be monitored.
