To avoid crowds in traditional campsites, it is possible to go wild camping. But how can we know where it is possible to settle down and what are the rules to respect? We’re talking about it asked Jordan Girod, spokesperson for TCS.

Planting your tent or plying your van by a small river, lighting a fire, grilling sausages … If wild camping is not prohibited in Switzerland, it is not allowed everywhere.

“The legal provisions relating to the wild camping depend on the canton, even on the town in which you are. It is preferable to contact them beforehand, ”explains Jordan Girod, spokesperson for the Touring Club Switzerland, in the show on. Campers can also contact the Tourist Office or the Police Station of the Regions concerned. And to add that there are no panels on site to inform campers.

Note that for the Vaud jura in particular, “there is an online card which lists all the locations available”.

Sanctions that vary

In all cases, national parks, federal frank districts and nature reserves are prohibited at the wilderness campsite all year round. “In areas of tranquility for fauna, there are periods of protection during which it is also prohibited,” says Jordan Girod.

And what do you risk if you plant your tent on a prohibited location? “The sanctions vary according to the canton and the town, from a few tens to several hundred francs. »»

Rules to respect

The protection of nature is also in order. “Avoid infringing a habitat that would be sensitive by observing the ground before settling down. And respect the tranquility of the premises by avoiding noisy activities, especially in the evening. It is at this time that many wild animals are active. And we bring back his waste with ourselves. »»

As for lighting a fire, it is advisable to use “an already existing home, because each new fire damages vegetation and the ground, sometimes for several years”, specifies Jordan Girod.

Other ways to camp outside the campsite

As an alternative to wild or traditional campsite, there is also the possibility of camping in individuals. “Several platforms exist, such as Park4night and Nomady. On social networks, there are groups where thousands of members offer locations at home, with a wide variety of places, ”explains the specialist.

“Some campsites also offer to get closer to nature. For example in Graubünden, an ephemeral campsite of the TCS allows you to get closer to nature to spend a few nights in tent, ”concludes Jordan Girod.
