Amateur pilots are worried: The EuroAirport de Basel no longer wants to accommodate light planes on its tracks. The federation which defends their interests considers that aviation is thus deprived of the very basis of its training.
Private aviation is increasingly under pressure in Switzerland. Last example: the EuroAirport of Basel, which intends to “use in the future its limited space even more targeted for commercial air traffic”, as reported by the SRF, which quotes a spokesperson. The activity must stop at the latest at the end of 2026.
For Aero-Club, umbrella association of light aviation and Swiss air sports, This decision reflects a general trend. The argument according to which light aviation would not be profitable for airports is “too simplistic”, believes Matthias Jauslin, president of the organization and national advisor to the Green’Liberal Party (PVL).
“All and all the pilots start their career on a small plane. The basic formation is done with us, ”he underlines. This development should also worry political authorities. “Everyone claims locally trained professionals, and at the same time we remove the conditions necessary for this training.”
