In 2024, the Swiss continued to heat the credit card on vacation. According to figures from the Federal Statistics Office (OFS), Swiss residents spent 18.9 billion francs abroad, 7.8% more than in 2023. An increase that exceeds that of revenue generated by foreign tourists in Switzerland, which increased by 2.2% to 19.6 billion. Switzerland therefore remains beneficiary on its tourist balance, even if its surplus decreases compared to 2023 to reach 720 million francs.
Nights of foreign visitors have increased in the hotel industry as well as in Parahôtellerie, just like study stays and in the hospital. In total, the result is an increase in revenue of 3.6% to increase revenue of 3.6%. On the other hand, stays without overnightness-like the day’s excursions-have slightly fell (-0.3%).
On the Swiss side, stays with overnight stays abroad cost 13.2 billion, or almost 70% of total tourist expenses. Purchase tourism, without overnight, is also in sharp increase: +9.4%, for a total of 5.7 billion francs.
