On May 28, the United States International Commercial Court suspected customs duties declared by Donald Trump before a court of appeal invalidates the decision the next day.

Donald Trump increases customs duties on steel and aluminum from 25 % to 50 %. On June 19, Mark Carney announced reprisal measures on June 19 if no agreement is found with the United States. But Donald Trump puts an end to any commercial negotiation with Canada on June 27 and threatens to impose new customs duties if Ottawa does not give up digital services tax. Two days later, the Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne, announces his repeal.

The maturity of July 9 to conclude an agreement between the United States and the countries initially subject to the customs duties of the “Liberation Day” is pushed back to 1is august. On July 10, Donald Trump sent a letter to Mark Carney in which he said that customs duties of 35 % could come into force from 1is August if no agreement is ratified by then. The United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia are the only countries to have sealed an agreement with the United States.
