An official Vatican report reveals major flaws in the causes that justified the publication of custoded traditionis. A hitherto non -disclosed text raises serious questions as to the justification for the decree of Pope Francis restricting traditional mass.
Diane Montagna, renowned Vaticanist, publishes the documents on her site. She obtained the global evaluation by the Vatican of the consultation of the bishops who would have “encouraged” Pope Francis to revoke Summorum pontificum, the text of Benoît XVI of 2007 liberalizing the Vetus Ordo, more commonly known as “traditional Latin mass” and the sacraments.
The text constitutes a crucial part of the official report of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith on its consultation of the bishops in 2020 concerning Summorum pontificum. He reveals that
“The majority of the bishops who answered the questionnaire said that bringing legislative changes to Summorum Pontificum would cause more harm than good.”
The continuation agreed to them. The global evaluation directly contradicts the justification declared when the Custodes traditionis is published and raises serious questions about its credibility. When, on July 16, 2021, Pope Francis promulgated traditionis custodes, he declared that the answers to the questionnaire “reveal a situation that concerns me and saddens me and persuades me from the need to intervene”. “Unfortunately, he declared in a letter of support addressed to bishops around the world, the pastoral objective of my predecessors has often been seriously neglected. The opportunity offered by Saint John Paul II and, with even greater magnanimity, by Benedict XVI … was exploited to expand ditches, strengthen divergences and encourage disagreements that hurt the church peril of the division ”.
He told bishops that he was “forced” by their “requests” to revoke not only Summorum pontificum but also “all standards, instructions, permissions and customs” which preceded his new decree.
However, the Vatican’s overall assessment reveals that “gaps”, “divergences” and “disagreements” result more from naivety, prejudices and the resistance of a minority of bishops with regard to pontificum summorum than problems emanating from the followers of the traditional Roman liturgy.
Conversely, the official report of the CDF indicates that “the majority of bishops who answered the questionnaire, and who have implemented Summorum pontificum with generosity and intelligence, finally declared themselves satisfied”. He adds that “in the places where the clergy has collaborated with the bishop, the situation has completely pacified”.
The overall assessment, which can be consulted at the end of Diane Montagna’s article in the Italian original and in an English translation, also stresses that traditionis custodes has amplified and projected as a major problem which was only accessory in the official CDF report.
Diana Mountain takes up the 7 conclusions of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith:
- The lack of peace and liturgical unity is more due to a minority of bishops than to followers of the traditional Roman liturgy.
- The majority of bishops who have implemented Summorum pontificum have declared themselves satisfied with this text.
- Bishops are grateful to the jurisdiction of the fourth section of the CDF (the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Dissout) commission
- The report confirms the attraction of young people for the old form of the liturgy.
- The report underlined the growth of vocations in ex-ECCLESIA dei communities from Summorum pontificum.
- The report recommends: “Let the people be free to choose. »»
Two months after the death of Pope Francis, the truth explodes like a bomb.
