Meningococcus B infections, although rare, can evolve quickly and seriously. In 2023, a strong increase in cases was noted: according to Public Health France, Invasive Meningococcus infections (IIM) increased by 72 % between 2022 and 2023, with almost half of the cases due to the B. B. Adolescents and young adults constitute a particularly exposed population.
In this context, the High Authority for Health (HAS) issued several opinions in 2024 to allow reimbursement of the Trumenba vaccine in volunteer 15-24 year olds, without however retaining a systematic vaccination. A decree published in the Official Journal in July 2025 Act this reimbursement 65 % for young people from this age group that requests it.
A targeted, non -systematic vaccination
Tromenba was already reimbursed from 10 years old for some people with an increased risk of IIM (immune deficit, grouped cases, etc.). The HAS now recommends expanding this possibility to 15-24 year olds, without making this vaccination compulsory.
If the individual effectiveness of the vaccine is recognized, its collective impact remains limited. Thus, any young wishing to be vaccinated in this age group can benefit from the reimbursement, on medical prescription.
A complementary vaccine strategy
This measurement completes the vaccination obligation against meningococcus B introduced in infants since January 2025. It is added to the recommendation of vaccination against ACWY serogroups in adolescents.
Tromenba offers personal protection, especially in times of resurgence. Its medical service rendered has been considered important by the HAS, even if its ASMR is level V (that is to say without clinical improvement demonstrated compared to Bexsero). The potential target population is estimated at nearly 8.8 million people in France.
Practical points for the pharmacist
- Interchangeability: No data allows you to recommend the exchange between Bexsero and Tromenba vaccines to date. The vaccine scheme must be initiated and prosecuted with the same vaccine.
- Vaccinal diagram, in primary vaccination, from 10 years old:
- 2 doses of 0.5 ml at 6 months apart, or
- 3 doses: two injections spaced at least 1 month, then a third dose at least 4 months after the second.
- The price of the Trumenba box decreased on September 2, 2025:
- PFHT : 72,00 € → 68,00 €
- PPTTC : 83,70 € → 79,11 €
- BEXSERO benefits from the reimbursement for 15-24 years since April 2025. A price drop will also occur on September 2, identical to that of Tromenba.
