Mexico and Canada have chosen different approaches in their negotiations with the Trump administration, in order to avoid punitive from their products.
Claudia Sheinbaum explained that she avoided “confrontation” with the American president during their discussions, and obtained a suspended 90 days before the expected taxation of a 30% rate on Mexican exports to the United States.

For Canada, Donald Trump noted the customs duties that must take effect on August 7, unless they are covered by the trilateral free trade agreement with Mexico.
Trump said that an agreement on surcharge would be “very difficult” if Ottawa recognized Palestine, as Prime Minister Mark Carney is considering it. And accused Canada not to do enough to curb the flood of fentanyl and other drugs entering into the United States, in addition to having “retaliated with its own customs rights”.
“They pay a customs right of 35% and not Mexico. We are going to share our experiences, they want to know how Mexico came to these results, “the Minister of the Mexican economy, Marcelo Ebrard, said on Tuesday before meeting the Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne.
