Trump offers a new census without “illegal” immigrants

Donald Trump asked his administration on Thursday to carry out a census not taking into account “illegally present” people “in the United States, a new way of obtaining more seats in the Congress, the determining census, among other things, the number of seats allocated to each state.

«I asked our Ministry of Commerce to start working immediately to work on a new very precise census, based on the current facts and figures (…). People who are illegally in our country will not be taken into account in the census, “wrote the American president on his social social platform.

A barely veiled way of gleaning more seats at the congress, the census used to distribute the votes within the electoral college, State by State, for the presidential and mid-term elections, whose next, determining for the rest of the presidency of Donald Trump, will take place in 2026.

The PEW Research Center also believes that by withdrawing the undocumented immigrants from the American census, several states would have been deprived in 2020 from a siege in the Congress, such as California.

The American president announced that his government will rely on this new count on “the results and information obtained in the 2024 presidential election”.

The American Constitution, which dates from 1790, provides that a census be carried out every ten years by counting “all people in each state”, including undocumented immigrants.

The next one must take place in 2030, but Donald Trump did not mention a date.

The proposal of the American president is a continuation of the recent actions of the Republicans to redraw the electoral districts in their favor, as in Texas or in Ohio.

“I won Texas,” boasted on Tuesday on CNBC Donald Trump, explaining that with this advance during the last presidential election, the Republicans had obtained the right to win “five more seats” in the mid-term elections in November 2026.

His vice-president JD Vance will continue the offensive in Indiana on Thursday to discuss with republican officials of the redistribution of this state, while the Democrats have a limited arsenal.
