The customs tariffs hurt the American manufacturer Ford who saw its actions fall by 3% announcing Wednesday a loss of $ 800 million in the second quarter.
Ford said that American customs duties on imported vehicles, as well as on steel and aluminum explain the losses revealed in quarterly financial results, reports the New York Post.
The CEO of the automaker, Jim Farley, said that the company was in contact daily with the White House.
Mr. Farley hopes to convince President Donald Trump to reduce pricing costs, especially on automotive parts.
“We believe that the growth potential will depend on the evolution of negotiations with the administration,” he said.
Ford has also revised its forecasts upwards due to the maintenance of customs duties in Mexico and Canada which are higher than expected.
Last May, the company announced that it suspended its annual forecasts, a direct consequence of uncertainty in the automotive industry caused by the actions of President Trump.
These forecasts were finally published this Wednesday.
At the same time, Ford estimated that it should pay $ 1.5 billion in customs prices during the year 2025.
