More than 2000 people had to be evacuated Monday in the Turkish province of Celanakkale (northwest), where a violent fire in progress since mid-day has devastated dwellings and intoxicated dozens of residents.

(Keystone-ATS) “As a precautionary measure, 2090 citizens were evacuated from risk areas by sea and earthly tracks,” the Governor of Celanakkale said on Monday evening on Monday evening, adding that 77 people who inhale fumes were treated in hospitals.

The fire, fussy by violent gusts of wind, has spread to several localities located at the southern entrance to the highly frequented Dardanelles, including the tourist village of Güzlyaly, where the population explodes in summer.

In this locality, housing and parked cars were delivered to the flames, in the middle of charred trees, according to images of Turkish media.

More than 760 firefighters were deployed, supported by ten aircraft, nine helicopters and more than 200 vehicles, according to the authorities.

Turkey, which has experienced its hottest July since the start of weather readings 55 years ago, has faced several weeks in recent weeks. Fourteen people lost their lives by fighting the fires in July in the west of the country.
