Two cadets come to the aid of a tourist at the Montmorency fall

Mikaël Denis and Maude Fournier are doing prevention and patrol in Boischatel this summer, as part of the Cadets of the Sûreté du Québec. They have not yet completed their police techniques.

On July 12, the two students were in the right place, at the right time. A 52 -year -old lady, originally from Montérégie, suffered discomfort on the bridge overlooking the Montmorency fall.

Two Cadets from the Sûreté du Québec make patrol and prevention at the Parc de la Fall-Montmorency.

Maude and Mikaël did not see the fall. They were alerted by visitors who noticed them a few meters further, because of their uniform of the Sûreté du Québec.

“We saw a lady on land. We immediately intervened by making room around the victim, ”says Mikaël, in an interview with The sun.

Quickly, the 21 -year -old student took the vital signs of the victim. She was unconscious and had a very weak pulse. “We put it in the lateral security position, on the side. Meanwhile, my colleague called 911. ”

A doctor with a rescue

Maude Fournier then went to the family to reassure them. “They were in shock, it is understandable. You had to manage them, ”says the 19 -year -old woman.

After a few minutes, a doctor who visited the park came to lend a hand to Mikaël, still at the lady’s bedside.

“At one point, I had the phone in the ear and I described a little what I saw of the victim. Distributor 911 told us to make maneuvers. The doctor and I was alternating, ”says the youngest.

The two men proceeded to cardiac massage until the arrival of paramedics.

Today, the victim is still in the hospital. His condition is considered stable.

The two cadets knew how to keep their calm during the intervention. “During our lessons, we often have simulations. We took it as if it was a simulation. We did the best we could, ”says Maude.

Help others

It was the first concrete intervention for the two students. “It is the fun of knowing that everyone was satisfied with the service that we have given. We did our best and I think it was really well, ”says Mikael.

The two cadets appreciated the adrenaline that this event gave them. “Being in action confirms that I can help people and be close to my community,” says Maude.

They were also able to put their theory into practice, which will be beneficial to them in the future. “Our first big intervention is already made. When you’re going to get to the field as a police officer, it’s going to be easier. We will no longer know our strengths and weaknesses, ”continues the student.

The mayor of Boischatel, Benoit Bouchard, welcomes the courage of the two cadets as well as the Sûreté du Québec program which supervises them.

“It’s something very positive. I hope that with that, other municipalities will join the project because it is something very good, ”he says. “We still have a large territory to cover and we know that you have to be in the right place at the right time. And they were this time. ”
