Farewell veaux, cows, pigs, welcome to the Wallabies. Since Sunday, between the Belgian city of Mouscron and the French town of Wattrelos, two small marsupials stand out. First of all because the species is not really endemic to the region, but especially because they dodged all the authorities’ attempts to capture them.
The first to have a third type meeting with this kangaroo mini-cousin is Manon, Sunday, shortly before 7 a.m. The young woman, who was by car, was able to photograph the animal when he seems to wait quietly to cross in the pedestrian crossing. “Kangaroo at the Luingu Herseaux roundabout impossible to approach,” she alerted to Facebook.
A call for police witnesses
The unusual pedestrian was reported to the Mouscron police, a Belgian city where he was also seen. “The Wallaby is currently still wandering,” confirmed the local police a little later, adding that he was still in the same commune. The authorities have also launched an appeal to witnesses in order to precisely locate the animal and try to catch it.
If the Wallaby is accepted as a pet in Wallonia, it is nonetheless fearful. “The animal is frightened, non -aggressive and flees if it is approached,” said the Mouscron police. The Belgian authorities also recognized that there was not one, but two in nature according to RTBF. The other was seen on the other side of the border, in Wattrelos, according to France 3.

Police and firefighters are on the spot but, for the moment, the Wallabies are still running. A small advance, however: their owner has been identified, except that he is currently on vacation. The authorities therefore rely on new reports and on a drone to try to grab fugitives.
