Ukraine strikes a Russian air base; Moscow deploys hundreds of drones

Ukraine said on Saturday having struck a Russian air base, while Russia continued to launch hundreds of drones during the night as part of an intensified bombing campaign that has further reduced the hopes of a ceasefire in this war that has been lost for more than three years.

The military staff of Ukraine said on Saturday that the Ukrainian forces had struck Borisoglebsk air base in the Russian region of Voronej, describing it as the base d’attache Russian combat aircraft su-34, su-35s and su-30sm.

In a Facebook publication, the staff said that he had touched a warehouse containing hovering bombs, a training aircraft and Maybe other planes.

Russian officials did not immediately comment on the attack.

Such attacks on Russian air bases aim to weaken Russia’s military capacity and demonstrate Ukraine’s ability to reach significant targets in Russia. Last month, Ukraine said it had destroyed more than 40 Russian planes parked to several aerodromes, in depth on Russian territory during a drone-underwater attack.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims to have shot down 94 Ukrainian drones overnight until Saturday, as well as 12 other drones on Saturday morning. No victim has been reported.

Russia pulled 322 drones and lures in Ukraine in the night from Friday to Saturday, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Among these, 157 were killed and 135 were lost, probably blocked electronically.

The western region of Khmelnytskyi in Ukraine was the main target of the attack, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. No damage, injured or death was reported, said regional governor Serhiy Tyurin on Saturday.

Russia has intensified its long -range attacks against Ukraine. Waves of drones and missiles targeted kyiv during the night on Friday during the most intensive air attack since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. On Saturday, the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, said that 2 people were killed and 26 others injured.

The new wave of attacks occurred after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Friday that he had “a very important and productive phone call” with American president Donald Trump.

The two leaders discussed how the Ukrainian air defenses could be reinforced, a possible joint production of weapons between the United States and Ukraine, and wider efforts led by the United States to end the war with Russia, according to a press release from President Zelenksy.

Asked Friday evening by journalists about the call, President Trump said it was a very good call.

Asked about the means of ending the fighting, the President of the United States was rather vague: I don’t know. I can’t tell you if it will happen or not.

The United States has recently suspended certain military aid expeditions to Ukraine, including crucial air defense missiles. The main European donors in Ukraine are thinking about how they can help fill the lack. President Zelensky said plans are underway to develop the national armament industry in Ukraine, but that it will take time.
