The ultra-Orthodox Israeli party Degel Hatorah (the Torah flag) leaves the government coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Nevertheless, reports several Israeli media on Tuesday.

Degel Hatorah decided to leave the government about the exemption from military service for ultra-Orthodox Jews. Consequently, Talmudic school students, an exemption increasingly badly accepted by Israeli society after 21 months of war in Gaza.

The government coalition is due to an alliance between the Prime Minister’s party. the Likoud, far-right training and ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties, but it is jeopardized about this question of the exception of conscription.

The ultra-Orthodox population represents 14% of the Jewish population of Israel, or nearly 1.3 million inhabitants, and around 66,000 men of serving benefit from an exemption.

While some of the ultra-Orthodox rabbis invoke the fact that the study of the Torah texts protects the country as much as the army. others fear that young enlightenment cease to practice religion.
