This summer again, campers planted their tent near the rivers beds, in defiance of the dangers linked to sudden floods.

Those who are used to walking in the mountains regularly fall on panels recalling the danger of setting up near the rivers beds. But despite these warnings, hikers are still too many to camp at the edge of a stream.

On LinkedIn, the Valais association of electrical energy producers (AVPEE) has just published a series of photos taken by its hydroguides, men and women present every summer in the field to raise awareness among rivers. We see tents installed very close to water, sometimes even practically in the river bedlike this shot taken by the guide Gaspard Escher downstream from the Ferpècle dam.

“This photo clearly illustrates the lack of consciousness of part of the public as to the dangers linked to the sudden floods”notes the AVPEE, an association founded in 1960 and which brings together any natural person, company or public community operating one or more power plants in Valais.

The association also plays a key role in prevention of dangers linked to sudden floods. She recalls that the wilderness campsite near the rivers is “very risky”.

“In the event of release of water from the dam, the rise in the level of the river can be sudden and dangerous, day and night, even in good weather”

Recall that sudden floods can be caused not only by violent thunderstorms, but also by the water loose from the dam upstream during the purges. These are necessary to evacuate the sediments carried by the alpine rivers, so as not to damage the pumping and turbine installations. They thus help maintain the efficiency and safety of hydroelectric infrastructure.

“The resulting floods can prove fatal for reckless,” said Time Already in 2016. This is the reason why the AVPEE multiplies prevention messages and campaigns. She did it this summer with several posters, including the one below:

“Share around you!” Take a distance from the rivers! “Repeat the Avpee, insisting that” the purges made on our rivers and the sudden floods are permanent dangers “.

For the second time in a few years, a child claimed the earliest ascent of the legendary Valais summit. This youth race challenges mountain specialists.

If Sam Evermore had not brandished a sign on which one could read “Youngest Ascent”, the youngest person to have climbed the mountain, few Swiss media would have reported the ascent of the truck successful by this young American of 11 years. But for the past few days, many of them recall that Sam Evermore, as courageous and gifted as he is, is not the youngest boy to have reached the summit of the “Horu”.
