understand symptoms and avoid bites

It is sometimes nicknamed the “tropical flu”. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by an infected mosquito. Although it can be serious, it is not contagious between humans. The best weapon? Protect yourself effectively against mosquitoes. With Insect Ecran, a recognized brand of anti-mosquitoes, solutions exist.

Viral disease transmitted only by mosquitoes

Dengue is caused by a virus from the Flavivirus family, transmitted exclusively by the bite of a mosquito of the genre Aedes (Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictusor more commonly tiger mosquito).

The question is: is it contagious? Fortunately no, there is no direct transmission by contact, saliva or air.

A highly expanding disease

Dengue is today one of the fastest vector vector diseases in the world. According to current WHO estimates, there may be 50 to 100 million cases worldwide, including 500,000 serious and around 12,000 deaths.

This disease rages in more than 100 tropical and equatorial countries. In France, it is regularly present in the overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Reunion, Mayotte …) and now in mainland France via imported and local cases.

Symptoms of dengue: watch out for serious forms

The first signs appear two to seven days after the bite:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Rash

In general, the disease manifests itself suddenly and lasts about a week, followed by long fatigue.
But in 1% of cases, a hemorrhagic form can occur, especially in children or people who have already been infected with another serotype of the virus. It can lead to a potentially fatal state of shock.

As soon as the first symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately or go to the emergency room.

Back from travel? Be careful

In the event of a fever within seven days of your return from a tropical area, see without waiting.
This allows an early diagnosis and avoids the risk of local transmission if tiger mosquitoes are present around you.

Treatment: relieve symptoms only

No curative treatment exists to date. Treatment is symptomatic with paracetamol against fever and pain, a lot of rest and good hydration: absolutely avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs, which increase hemorrhagic risk.

Prevention: the key to avoid dengue

Protection against mosquito bites is essential. Before any risk trip, it is recommended to consult a doctor or a vaccination center.

Insect Ecran offers a full range of products adapted to all profiles and all destinations with products for high density areas of mosquitoes, specially designed for the youngest or mosquito nets impregnated for the night and electric diffusers for the protection of interiors.

In the event of bites, the brand also offers after-header treatments which quickly relieve itching caused by insects or certain plants. Insect Ecran is based on recognized assets at optimal concentrations to guarantee maximum efficiency in all circumstances.

Collective struggle: a common issue

To curb the proliferation of the tiger mosquito, the mobilization of all is essential. Eliminate stagnant waters – cups, buckets, gutters – around homes, carefully cover the rainwater tanks, and aware of those around these simple but essential gestures are all concrete actions.

Together, these measures effectively participate in reducing the laying places of the mosquito and thus limits the dissemination of dengue.
