United States: A bat is stuck in the mouth of a tourist, the medical bill is salty: News

An American tourist, on a trip to Arizona, accidentally found himself with a bat in the mouth and 18,000 euros in medical expenses to pay for his treatment against rabies, after an insurance problem.

It is a trip that she is not likely to forget. Erica Kahn, a 33 -year -old American, traveled with her father in Glen Canyon last August. As she photographed the sky, she notices that bats twirl around them. Without panicking at first, she ends up starting to shout when one of the animals finds herself stuck between her camera and her. By screaming, it then allows the animal to sneak into its mouth a few seconds, says the Parisian who relays information from the specialized media Kff Health News.

If she has not noticed that the bat had bitten her, her father, who is a doctor, still recommends herself to go to the hospital to receive the rabies vaccine. But, in the United States, medical expenses are exorbitant and Erica Kahn had just lost her job and his health insurance with it. Worried about the cost of her hospitalization, she subscribes online insurance and finally went to the hospital.

A period of 30 days

For two weeks, she will receive preventive treatment against rabies in clinics of Arizona and Massachusetts, where she comes from. She receives in all four doses of the anti -rabic vaccine and four immunoglobulin injections, which strengthen her antibodies against the rabies virus. After all these procedures, Erica Kahn finally received an invoice of 20,749 dollars (17,800 euros) in December.

If she thought she was protected, the young woman’s assurance was actually no treatment. Under the terms of his contract, a deficiency period of 30 days is compulsory before the treatments could be taken care of. Since the incident, she has changed her insurance by finding a new job. However, there are still 16,000 euros to pay, according to the Parisian.
