Trump insults the Liberian president by congratulating him for his English
The American president, who received five of his African counterparts on Wednesday at the White House, complimented Joseph Boakai for his level of English, official language of Liberia.

Donald Trump Compared to the White House on Wednesday the president of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, for his level of English, when it is the official language of this West African country.
“Thank you, and in such a good English, so beautiful,” said the American president, when he received five African presidents at the White House to discuss trade issues, including mineral exploitation.
“Where did you learn to talk to it so beautiful?” Where have you studied? At Liberia? ”Press Donald Trump. Joseph Boakai first had a little embarrassed laugh before simply answering “yes sir” to the last question.
“Well it’s very interesting, it’s a beautiful Englishman. I have people around this table which are far from speaking it as well as you, ”concluded the American president.
English, the most used language in Liberia
Liberia is the oldest republic in sub-Saharan Africa, founded in 1822 under the impetus of the United States for freed black slaves. English is its official and mostly used language across the country.
President since 2024, Joseph Boakai studied at the University of Liberia, in the capital Monrovia, as well as the State University of Kansas, in the center of the United States.
