Ottawa, June 25, 2025 – As part of the modifications made to the program of foreign students, a new criterion was implemented in 2024. To be eligible for a postdiplôme work permit (PTPD), foreign and foreign students who are not registered with a baccalaureate, mastery or doctoral program must follow a program in an admissible field of studies linked to long -term shortage, such as those who are priority within the framework of the Express entry program. This rule applies to people who submitted a request for a study permit on November 1, 2024 or after this date.
As of today, the list of eligible study areas has been updated in order to reflect express entry priorities for 2025, and the following modifications were made:
- Adding 119 new fields of study in key sectors such as health care and social services, education and trades;
- Withdrawal from 178 areas of study which were no longer linked to professions in long-term labor shortage.
Following these changes, 920 areas of study are now eligible for PTPD.
Students who asked for a study permit before June 25, 2025 will always be eligible for the PTPD if their field of studies were on the list when they asked for their study permit, even if it has since been removed.
