Four drivers pinned in alpine passes
The Valais police intensified their controls. Drivers, flashes between 145 and 153 km/h in areas limited to 80 km/h, risk 4 years in prison.
An English driver was driving at 145 km/h on the Furka in Niederwald. He was noted a prohibition to drive on Swiss territory and had to pay a fine of several thousand francs.

The Valais cantonal police intensified its road controls throughout its territory during the month of July, with particular attention paid to the Haut-Valais passes. Four new driver crimes have been identified, in addition to 25 other drivers intercepted for speeding over 30 km/h, according to the Canton Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The first case occurred on June 27 around 4 p.m. A 31 -year -old English motorist was checked at 145 km/h on the Route de la Furka in Niederwald, where speed is limited to 80 km/h. Domiciled abroad, he was noted a prohibition to drive on Swiss territory and had to pay a fine of several thousand francs.
The next day, Saturday, June 28, a 34-year-old Swiss citizen was intercepted shortly after 6 p.m. to 153 km/h on the Simplon pass road in Ried-Brig, in an area limited to 80 km/h. His driving license was immediately removed.
A third case occurred on July 6 around 11:30 am. A 24 -year -old Swiss motorcyclist traveling on the Route de la Furka in Mörel was flashed at 145 km/h instead of the 80 km/h authorized. His license was also removed on the spot.
Finally, on July 22, around 3:40 p.m., a 28 -year -old Swiss driver was measured at 145 km/h on the Route de la Furka in Oberwald, still in an area limited to 80 km/h. His driving license was removed from him immediately.
Repression against the Waterians in Valais
All these drivers have been denounced in the road traffic and navigation service as well as with the public prosecutor. The authorities recall that offenders are exposed to sentences of up to 4 years in prison and a license withdrawal of at least two years.
The Valais cantonal police specifies that, although they usually favor prevention in traffic, drivers are specifically targeted by repressive measures. It also warns that road checks can be carried out at any time and any day throughout the canton.
