The Solarstratos team succeeded, on Tuesday, the highest solar and electric flight in history. Raphaël Domjan managed to reach 9,521 meters above sea level. The previous record belonged to Bertrand Piccard and Solar Impulse with 9,235 meters.
(Keystone-ATS) This flight, lasting 5:09 am, took place from Sion airport. The HB-SXA experimental aircraft succeeded in its attempt at world record at altitude alone in solar energy, based on thermal specific to the Valais topography, specifies the Solarstratos communication cell in a statement on Wednesday morning. This brand of 9,521 meters must still be validated by the International Aviation Federation (ISP).
“This feat poses the last milestone in the progression which aims to reach the stratosphere with solar energy. It achieves the objective of the mission: to strike the spirits with spectacular, emblematic challenges, to promote solar energy, in order to preserve our biosphere and our planet, “summarizes the Solarstratos team.
