Verviers: Water damage to the La Crossée bookstore, hundreds of damn books

It was the employee of the bookstore who discovered the disaster this Friday morning by opening the store. The bottom of the trade, the part where travel guides are stored, pocket novels and the volumes of the Pleiad was flooded.

Already flooded in 2021, the boss remains Zen

After the heavy rains on Thursday evening, the water had accumulated on a platform. She found her way under a zinc plate and sank inside the bookstore. No doubt for several hours.

There, we approach the 500 damaged books “ The boss Bernard Quickels is laid down to count the dipped volumes. “Bouquins in this state, it is unsaleable. Water and books do not mix well.”

This bookstore, located a few houses further in 2021, had already been ravaged that year by the main floods. “Frankly what happened to me four years ago worked for me a little. I take this with much more philosophy. This is material. There will be a solution.”

The bookstore remains open

Some books, which were not under the flight, stuck in the air overloaded with humidity and broke their shelves as they swelled. The employees and the boss are busy sorting the hundreds of books that will have to be thrown away.

The amount of the damage has not yet been estimated. The store remains open.
