“We expect more than 20,000 people”, Chambéry is full with an arrival and a stage start

Chambéry is preparing to welcome an arrival and a stage departure from the Tour de France women 2025, in addition to the Step of the Tour intended for amateur cyclists. A boon for the city, its hoteliers and traders who expect to receive more than 20,000 visitors for the occasion.

Double blow for Chambéry. The city of the Dukes is preparing to welcome the arrival of the 7th stage of the Tour de France women Friday, August 1, but it will also be the city of departure for the 8th stage the next day.

A boon for the city that has already put on its most beautiful attire: pennants and flags To become the capital of female cycling. While the filling rate amounted to 65 % last year, many hotels display full and hope to retain this new customers.

“We hope to attract a new customers that potentially will come back in the following years. Usually, we are complete (during this period) but with shorter stays while there, people stay longer”notes the director of the Hôtel des Princes, Marion Rousselon.

“We already have a dynamic. Chambéry is a place where people come to cycle. There is already a clientele that exists and we would like to perpetuate it. (…) There is also a clientele of all of Europe that is interested in the bicycle. This clientele is emerging and we hope it will continue”adds the hotel industry.

In addition to hosting an arrival and a departure, Chambéry will also be the starting point for the Tour Step on Saturday. 7,000 cyclists, 30 % of which, will set off a few hours before the professionals on the course between the city of the Dukes and the Madeleine pass.

“We expect between 2 and 3 million euros in economic benefits to the overall during this period. Welcoming a step has an impact over time to publicize the destination”underlines Guillaume Rosetti, director of the Tourist Office of Grand Chambéry.

“It is a major event (…) with a retransmission in more than 170 countries in the world that will discover all the richness of the territoryhe smiles. ÇTo be also a magnificent popular party. We wait more than 20 000 people with cultural and artistic events. It’s going to be the bicycle party for three days. “

On the restaurant side, it is the race against the clock before the influx of visitors. Despite a difficult start to summer with gloomy weather and a sawtooth frequentation, the profession hopes for a rebound.

“We expect a maximum crowd. We have a rather conciliatory weather for us and for the runners. We know that the hotels are full, that there will be an influencing”says Michel Naas, owner of the restaurant Le Savoyard. “We hope that it will organize other major events thereafter that are a little missing in Chambéry.”

Events that will make a date for the city of the Dukes and will mark the arrival of the Tour de France women in the Alps. Three stages between Savoy and Haute-Savoie before the final explanation on Sunday in Châtel.

The Tour de France 2025 will take place from July 5 to 27, with a big departure from Lille and a traditional arrival on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The course of this 112nd edition, entirely traced in France, totals 3,320 km distributed over 21 stages, including two individual time trials and five arrivals at the top. The key stages include the ascent of Mont Ventoux on July 22, followed by arrivals at altitude in Courchevel (Col de la Loze) on July 24 and at La Plagne on July 25, promising a spectacular final in the Alps.
