The Swiss buy less Tesla, but overall more electric cars. Over the first six months of this year, an impressive number of new models have also won in the hit of sales.

In the first half of 2025, 23,000 new electric cars were put into circulation in Switzerland. An increase of 8.5% compared to the same period a year earlier. Thus, this year, one of the newly registered out of five passenger car was entirely electric.
Tesla dominates but loses popularity
The park now has 234,000 vehicles, which only represents only 5% of the tourism category. So far, so good. But what are the most coveted machines?
As usual in recent years, the model of Tesla has occupied the head of the semi -annual classification, by far. But business is no longer so flourishing for Elon Musk’s business. In a globally growing market, model sales fell 41%.
The Model 3, however the best -selling in our country a few years ago, even recorded a drop of 48%. It is no longer among the most popular ten electricity. The S and X models are even out of the top 50.
The Volkswagen group is on the rise
Six cars of the top 10 and twelve from the top 25 come out of Volkswagen factories. In total, this year, almost one new car in three comes from a brand of the German group in Switzerland: Skoda, Audi, Cupra or Porsche.
More than the others, Skoda seems to have found his cruising pace, while Tesla gives the impression of missing battery. Compared to the first half of 2024, its new registrations have almost halved in the country (-46%). In the electric segment, the American manufacturer, formerly dominant, holds a share of around 13%.
This decline is not completely unexpected, however. The range of American models remains limited and the choice continues to grow in competition.
Consequence: BMW, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi and Hyundai-Kia are getting closer to the pioneer. Just behind with its brands Volvo and Polestar, the Chinese Geely has exceeded known names, such as Mercedes, Ford and Toyota. The world market leader, Chinese Byd, remains behind in Switzerland. From January to June, he was not registered “only” 132, against 2907 for Tesla and 7651 for the VW group.
Many new ones
Compared to last year, nine newcomers have appeared in the Top 25. This shows how the manufacturers quickly launch electric models. Objective: to comply with the more strict limits imposed by the European Union in terms of CO₂. The Skoda Elroq, Renault 5 and Audi Q6 are experiencing particularly promising beginnings.
Another observation: the latest-ngs of Skoda and Audi are currently sold better with us than vehicles of the main brand, VW. But this is also explained by the model cycle. The two companies have recently marketed new products, while, at VW, several models already have a few years of existence. In the future, smaller and more affordable cars, the VW ID.1 and ID.2, as well as the ID.3 and ID.4 redesigned could offer a boost to the sales of the historic German brand.

The Model was registered there 2246 times precisely from January to June. This is more than enough to enthron in first place. At the same period, a year ago, there were nevertheless 3,837 puts. Another consequence of this considerable decline (-41%): Tesla’s electric SUV is no longer the best-selling car in Switzerland.
Tesla’s former bestseller, Model 3, has dropped to 12th place. The share of the American manufacturer on the entire Swiss automotive market has been reduced to more than 2% in the first half, while it was 5% in 2024.
