For twenty months, the governments of the world have been watching without intervening the massacre of the Palestinians of Gaza. In contrast, global public opinion reacts, often strongly, but must see its helplessness. Day after day reaches us from the videos and testimonies which allow us to say that the 21st century innovated in a sinister way: this is the first time that we can follow live the extinction caused by a population by a government occupying a territory in defiance of international law.
In France, emotion is lively in the population, despite the many information filtering and despite the overwhelming silence of most of the “responsibility” people. Of course, it is necessary to underline the courage of some personalities, in particular in the National Assembly, and on social networks, which save the honor of France. However, overall, what a overwhelming silence where the Hubris of force and violence is deployed and not “just war”!
The silence of Christians
The editors of this manifesto make the sad observation of a total passivity before horror, in political families where one should, by fidelity to the history of France, maintain the generous tradition of the monarchy, the Empire and the Republic in favor of the Christians of the East and the oppressed peoples of the Near East.
Attached, by our personal history and by our practice, to the Catholic Church, we note, with pain, an even more terrible reality: the silence of so many Christians, that the exercise of maximum violence against part of the inhabitants of the blessed earth where Christ lived does not seem to be disturbing.
We decided to use the only power we have: to speak, to implore the awakening of softened consciences, to remind France to its history, to its duties, to its vocation. We think that a France which is silent and which does not act in front of what is happening more particularly in Gaza loses its soul. We believe that a France which abandons Lebanon is no longer faithful to its history or its mission.
Complicity of French decision -makers
We are convinced that the silence, the inaction, even the complicity of French decision-makers-and their takeover, de facto, in an Israeli-Palestinian conflict where Paris should have stayed neutral and propose mediation-sow the germs of serious troubles to come for our country, for our society: in particular because of the now numerous presence, on our soil, people of culture or Muslim practice, who feel naturally of their brothers and sisters massacred in Gaza.
We deeply think that our country, today divided, uncertain about the meaning of its history, ridiculed in the eyes of the world by the pusillanimity of its rulers, cannot remain inactive. It is time to find this ability that General de Gaulle had to work in favor of just and lasting peace.
To put it simply: it seems to us that we cannot be French and remain indifferent or accomplice in front of what is happening in Gaza. France wake up! Come back to your vocation!
