The heat wave has not yet said its last word in Switzerland, and it is even accompanied by other phenomena potentially dangerous for our health, such as high concentrations of ozone.

The heat wave is firmly installed: Wednesday, temperatures were red almost everywhere in Switzerland.

According to Meteonews, the highest temperature was recorded in Payerne with 36.5 ° C, followed by Lausanne-Pully and Geneva (36.4 ° C) as well as Basel-Binningen and Visp, both at 36 ° C.

The coolest points remain perched at altitude: 9.1 ° C at the Jungfraujochà in Bern and 11.9 ° C on piz Corvatsch in Graubünden.

A risky concentration of ozone in the plain

In addition to the hot weather, there is currently a high concentration of ozone, sometimes above the legal threshold, especially in the plain. As Meteonews points out, this phenomenon can affect health.

The most marked peaks generally occur in the middle of the day and in the afternoon. In vulnerable people, such as asthmatics, a high ozone level can cause coughing, inflammation of the respiratory tract, eye irritation or headache. It is therefore recommended to limit physical efforts to the coolest hours in the morning or evening, or even to avoid them completely.

Concentration d’ozone

In Europe, the legal limit to protect human health is set at 120 µg/m³. According to Meteosuisse, this threshold has been crossed many times in recent days in the country.

Forecasts for the next few days

No notable drop in temperatures is expected on Thursday and Friday: the 30 ° C mark will be widely crossed again. A slight refreshment could be loomed this weekend, in German-speaking Switzerland anyway.

Some isolated showers or thunderstorms could occur in the coming days, especially on Saturday and mainly in the mountains. Plaine regions should be less affected.

According to Meteosuisse, the trend could really change at the end of next week, suggesting the first fall temperatures, but the forecasts are still uncertain. (ome)
