Situation

A sustainable heat wave settles in France, with temperatures often greater than 36 ° C from the southwest to the center-east, and a number of departments passing by increasing heat wave. The heat peak is expected between August 11 and 13, with increased tropical nights. This heat wave recalls that, later, from August 2023, but seems to remain far behind that of August 2003 in duration.
However, this high heat tray should not beat a absolute temperature record.
Overall, this very hot episode will last until August 15, or even more in the regions of the center-east, which will remain to be determined.
From Monday, these strong heat heat will go north of the Loire, to Ile-de-France and then the Northeast. Almost 70% of the country could then go on orange level heat wave alert.

Observation

This Friday morning, Some tropical temperatures were observed in the south (Toulouse plain) as well as in Lyon (with 20 to 22 ° C), which was barely in scorching standards. Everywhere else, temperatures were much lower than the night heat wave thresholds (15 to 17 ° C).

The episode started as expected Thursday afternoon with temperatures sharply, reaching:
37 ° C in Tiranges (43)
36 ° C in Toulouse (31)
35.2 ° C in Orange (84)
35 ° C in Albi (81), Montauban (82) and Carpentras (84).

In addition, we noted 34 ° C in Bordeaux and 33 ° C in Lyon.

Evolution

A very hot air bubble will settle permanently in the south of the Loire and maintain at least until the middle of next week. To the north, the heat will remain more moderate, with nights still pleasant, but in the south, between the Garonne and the Rhône to the Val de Saône, the temperatures will be particularly high. This weekend and at the start of the week, the heat wave will focus mainly on the center-east, with a slight decline expected possibly to the southwest.

In the departments on orange alert, the scorching thresholds should be affected day and night for at least three consecutive days. On yellow alert, the days will be very hot but the nights more breathable, limiting the impact on health. This episode, intense but without expected record, could last until August 15, or even a little more in the center-east.

This Friday
The heat increases a little and extends to Limousin, the central regions, Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. From 17 to 20 ° C in the morning, temperatures often reach 35 to 36 ° C in the afternoon, with peaks at 38 ° C in the departments placed on orange alert.
The night from Friday to Saturday will be warmer with 20 ° C of minimum observed more frequently (tropical night).

SATURDAY
Intense scorching heat especially in the center-east. From 19 to 22 ° C in the morning, we expect 35 to 38 ° C in the afternoon until Burgundy and in the Alpine valleys, recalling the situation in early July. The heat does not weaken in the southwest plains either.
The night from Saturday to Sunday will be very hot, often 20 to 22 ° C from minimum to the center-east.

Sunday
Third day of heat wave in the southwest and center-east. The values remain identical, with always 35 to 38 ° C in the afternoon on the same regions. The southwest could benefit from an attenuation of heat due to the possible lifting of ocean air, which will be specified.

Subsequent evolution: next week

The very strong heat and the heat wave will then go back to northeast of France and Ile-de-France on Monday and Tuesday, which would be the two warmest days on a national scale (with a national thermal indicator estimated at 28 ° C, as at June 30 and July 1).

The heat leaving the heat wave should start to be implemented from the West on Wednesday, but a wide east half of the country is likely to keep these very strong heat until Thursday and Friday.
