When basketball unites Cameroon and Canada

During this week, sixty participants will follow technical training, will compete for tournaments, will participate in coaching clinics and video sessions. The competitive part will be crowned by a star match and the awards ceremony, before giving way to community awareness activities and the closing ceremony.

“Among the selected sites is Makak’s Sacred Heart College, built by Canadians in the 1950s. This symbolic choice reinforces the link between our two countries,” added Rose Cathy Handy.

From Toronto to Makak: a solidarity momentum

Patrick Bizindavyi, co -organizer of the basketball camp in Makak, said l-express.ca The enthusiasm aroused by the initiative within the Cameroonian community of the Grand Toronto. This craze has notably resulted in exchanges facilitated with local authorities and better access to the resources available on site.

“By chance, a large majority of Cameroonians established in Toronto are from Makak or neighboring villages, which favored exchanges with local authorities. I have even been put in touch with Makak’s deputy, whom I will meet this week to take stock, ”he specifies.

The support of the community was also illustrated by the commitment of community organizations who agreed to animate conferences intended for young people, addressing themes such as mental health, leadership or resilience.
