Who is Pierre Bertinotti, the new grand master Freemason of the Grand Orient of France?

At 72, Pierre Bertinotti was elected Thursday evening Grand Master of the Grand Orient of France (Godf), the oldest and most important French Masonic obedience. This teacher of economics and former senior official elected 27 out of 37 votes will succeed Nicolas Penin for a one -year term.

Initiated in 2003 at the Saint-Jean lodge at the temple of peace, in Metz (Moselle), Pierre Bertinotti climbed the levels of the obedience. He notably held the functions of Venerable Master (who directs the work of the Lodge), speaker (who controls the smooth running of debates) and roofer (who protects the lodge by ensuring the confidentiality of meetings), details the organization in a press release. From 2019, Pierre Bertinotti took responsibility at the national level.

Graduate of Sciences-Po Paris and HEC

Originally from Metz, a graduate of Sciences-Po Paris, HEC and the National School of Posts and Telecommunication, Pierre Bertinotti has made a career in high administration. Technical advisor to Pierre Bérégovoy at the Ministry of Finance, he was then an economic and financial controller until 2018.

Pierre Bertinotti also sat on the Metz municipal council between 2001 and 2008, and today heads a consulting company. Since 2009, he has been teaching the economy in Centraleupélec and the University of Lorraine since 2016, mentions the Freemason newspaper 450.fm.

The Grand Orient of France claims more than 55,000 members and around 1,400 lodges. Founded in 1728, this obedience classified on the left in the French Masonic landscape has opened up to women since 2010, which today represent 12 to 13 % of its workforce.

For his mandate, Pierre Bertinotti promises to place the defense of the Republic and secularism at the heart of his action: “It will be the common thread of my mandate. He also intends to defend the principles of tolerance, secularism and absolute freedom of conscience, while continuing the opening towards civil society. He relies on concrete commitments such as “volunteering with Restos du Coeur” or “involvement as a municipal councilor” to dispel fantasies around Freemasonry.
