Tesla has just formalized the YL Model in China. A model extended, with six places and more space inside. Here is everything we know at the moment.
Tesla has just confirmed on Weibo the arrival of a new version of its star SUV: the Model YLan elongated and six -seater version for the Chinese Model market that we know well.
A simple post published on Weibo is enough to formalize the maneuver: two photos, a familiar silhouette (but extended), and this promise: “We see each other fall« .
But behind this minimalist communication, we often find in China another channel much richer in information: the approval files of the Ministry of Industry (MIIT), publicly accessible and closely scrutinized by specialists. Thanks to them, we already know almost everything about this Model YL, as relayed CarNewsChina. And it’s not a simple restyling.
A model y xxl, but not disproportionate
The letter Lwe had already seen it from other manufacturers to designate the “long” versions of premium models. At Tesla, it is now a fact: the Model lies down there, widens internally and wins a third row of seats.
Here are the dimensions, put in perspective with the five -seater version currently sold:

In China, where the SUV six or seven places are more and more popular, it is a strategic positioning. And Tesla answers it without revolutionizing its platform.
Six places, two engines, and 456 horsepower under the hood
On the technical side, the MIIT documents confirm that this long version will have two electric motorsone at the front of 142 kWand one at the back of 198 kWor a combined power of 340 kW (456 horsepower). What maintain the dynamic temperament of Model Y, even with a notable elongation.
The battery is supplied by LGbut its exact capacity is not yet known. We can reasonably expect an NCM (nickel-mangansis-cobalt) chemistry similar to those already used on the model y great autonomy. The big question remains whether the capacity has been increased for better autonomy.
But this is not sure, because on the mass side, the sheet indicates 2,008 kg empty : a very contained figure for an electric SUV six seats with double engine. For comparison, it takes 1,997 kg for the all -wheel drive version of the Model Y. which makes us say that the battery capacity is not up, around 80 kWh for around 600 km of WLTP autonomy.
Tesla therefore continues to make the difference on the weight, a determining factor for dynamics as well as for autonomy, even if consumption is not yet specified.
Why this version exists (and why now)
This YL Model does not happen by chance. On the Chinese market, Tesla sees its historic domination gradually nibbled by increasingly aggressive local brands. Notably Li car, Xiaomi, Onvo (The new family brand of NIO), or byd. However, all these actors have one thing in common: they offer spacious family SUVs, often with six or seven places, and a sense of advanced comfort.
Faced with this domestic offensive, Tesla could no longer be satisfied with its current variations. The goal here is twofold: Stay competitive on the family segment et make the commercial life of the model y lastwhile waiting for a potential new, more flexible platform.
What will the interior look like?
Obviously, homologation does not yet reveal the images of the interior. But several elements allow you to anticipate: the Model YL will remain a six places with a configuration 2 + 2 + 2probably with independent central seats (and not a bench), in a format close to what is found on premium minivans type Lexus LM or Zeekr 009.
As for the rest of the endowment, it is a safe bet that it will line up with the Dual Motor Model already sold in China, even with some bonuses: rear screens or increased refinement. We see in the photos of the headrests at the front which seem more padded than on the current Model Y.
Launch in the fall, for China only?
Tesla has been clear: the Model YL will arrive “in the golden fall”, either Between September and November 2025. It will be produced locally at Shanghai Gigafactory and surely Reserved for the Chinese market. At least at first.
Will we see this declination land in Europe or the United States? Nothing is excluded. Several clues, such as References to a six -seater version in the Tesla firmware filessuggest that the manufacturer is preparing an internationalization.
The other big question is whether the 7 -seater version of the Tesla Model classic will come back to the catalog, as was the case before restyling. Or if, this lying version will exist in a 7 -seater version.
