Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes keep their title in Montreal

Canadian volleyball players Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes can say Mission accomplished. Determined to defend their title obtained two years ago at the Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 in Montreal, they achieved brilliantly by winning in front of the German Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, Sunday evening, in the Grand Final.

After defeating the Olympic champions earlier during the semi-finals, Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes were just as effective against Müller and Tillmann, which they defeated in two rounds of 21-15 and 22-20.

Dominant in the first round, the Ontarians experienced some difficulties at the start of the second. The Germans took the opportunity to impose their pace and give themselves a comfortable six -point lead that they maintained for a good part of the round.

Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes finally noted the level of their game to fill the gap and create equality at 16-16. They then managed to take the advantage and end the debate.

Since the start of the season, Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes have put every effort to reach the top of their form in Montreal.

It was the event for which we wanted to prepare. We wanted to use the first part of our season to improve, to gradually refine different parts of our game, in order to arrive here and give the best possible performance, said Humana-Paredes. There are still a few months in the season, but it’s really the highlight here. We are so proud.

Sweet revenge

At the beginning of the afternoon, in the rain and wind, Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes won in two rounds of 21-11 and 22-20 ahead of the Brazilians Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa, who had defeated them in the Paris Games final.

Honestly, I did not think of avenge this defeat, assured Humana-Paredes. I was thinking of all this week that has been so pleasant so far. We enjoy good times with us. We face great teams. It is our work to face the best in the world. We want to keep a high level. We feel good this week. Yes, there is a history with this team, but that did not change our approach to the match.

In the bronze match, the Brazilians had the best on the Austrians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Saimova, in two rounds of 21-14 and 21-16.

Among men, the Norwegian favorites Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sandlie Sørum won gold thanks to a victory of 21-19 and 21-13 in the final against the Swedish Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson.

The Czechs Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner won the bronze medal match in three rounds of 14-21, 22-20 and 20-18 against the Swedish David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig.

Norwegians Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sandlie Sørum won gold in Montreal.
