Computer scienceHe refuses to go to Windows 11 and Microsoft attacks in justice
A Californian continues the technological giant for stopping support for the Windows 10 operating system.
Windows 11 released in October 2021, while Windows 10 represents approximately 43% market share among Windows users.
IMAGO/SOPA ImagesLawrence Klein, a southern California resident, filed a complaint against Microsoft before the San Diego Superior Court. The dispute relates to the decision of the Redmond giant to put an end to the support of Windows 10, on October 14, 2025. Owner of two laptops equipped with this old system, the complainant accuses the famous American company of wanting to “force his customers of buying new devices optimized to execute the suite of generative artificial intelligence software of Microsoft, such as Copilot, which is supplied by default Windows 11 ”.
The migration of Windows 10 to Windows 11 is currently free, but millions of devices cannot benefit from the upgrade to the new version of the system due to the absence of a prerequisite: the TPM 2.0 module (Trusted Platform 2.0 module), a material component essential to data protection and the integrity of the system. There are ways to get around this requirement, but the machines updated in this way do not benefit from official care and may encounter difficulties in obtaining technical assistance in the event of problems, reports the specialized Tom’s Hardware site.
Free extension of the requested support
Lawrence Klein accuses Microsoft of compromising the data of its users, failing to buy new aircraft or to pay the 30 to 60 dollars annually to benefit from extensive support (ESU). He does not claim financial compensation, apart from the reimbursement of his legal costs. On the other hand, he requests that Microsoft be forced to extend Windows 10 support for free until the still popular system market share goes below 10% of Windows users.
