Winter medicines: no specific instructions at this stage, announces the ANSM | The daily life of the pharmacist | Professional practice

Even if we are only at the beginning of August, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) is already reflecting on the winter plan aimed at guaranteeing access to major drugs during this period. In view of the current level of stocks, the agency does not provide specific instructions for the moment.

Antibiotics, fever drugs, corticosteroids, asthma drugs … so many specialties that have been the subject of strong supply tensions in recent years in winter. In order to prepare for the best for the coming months, the ANSM brought together on July 17 all the actors in the supply chain “To take stock of the 2024-2025 season and identify the areas for improvement for next winter”. Main teaching to remember: “The availability of drugs is ensured” For the winter of 2025-26 provides the ANSM. “Stocks are reconstructed, both at Laboratoires, the wholesalers in the pharmacy. The provisioning forecasts in connection with the needs of needs, transmitted by the laboratories, do not provide for a future tension signal for next season. After analyzing these elements shared with the actors of the supply chain, we do not provide specific instructions or early distribution measures at this stage, while maintaining careful follow -up of the situation “therefore indicates the ANSM. If the latter therefore welcomes the progress observed, axes of improvement have still been identified by the various players in the pharmaceutical chain, “In particular the shared need to improve the understanding of the indicators put online and strengthen the sharing of the causes of tension and/or rupture as well as the discount dates when they are known”.

The drug agency has also taken stock of the last winter, marked by “A strong epidemiological activity (darling then flu), resulting in an increase in antibiotic consumption”. If the ANSM acknowledges having observed local and punctual supply difficulties, in particular on amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, it underlines “An overall improvement and return to normal drugs based on adult and pediatric amoxicillin, after several seasons marked by important difficulties for these drugs”. The needs coverage has also been ensured for other close -up -over drugs: oral paracetamol, oral corticosteroids and asthma drugs. On the other hand, the rub on the clarithromycin, which has been the subject of many tensions, in particular on the pediatric oral form and the tablets.
