Without budget for CPAS, committed commitments ready to block unemployment reform? “Put the municipalities in front of a wall makes no sense”

The president of the commitments, Yvan Verougstraete, was the guest of “facing Buxant” this Sunday, June 29. Among the many subjects mentioned, he spoke about the future unemployment reform.

Would the party committed them be ready to block the next unemployment reform if no budget is voted to help CPAS and municipalities? Present in the program Faced with Buxant This Sunday, June 29, Yvan Verougstraete, president of the commitments, answered the question.

“Yes, as we have said from the very beginning. It is a sine qua non condition that we have sufficient funding from our municipalities so that they can face this financial obligation. In fact, making it free from our municipalities would be really dangerous, especially for the poorest municipalities which cannot afford this new influx of people, ”he explains.

As for knowing why this problem was not anticipated before launching the reform, here is its answer: “It is thought, and it is already in the agreement of the government. It is well planned that there must be a refinancing, but things do not advance sufficiently quickly in this part of the agreement. If you reread the sentence, it is clear that there will be adequate refinancing for the municipalities. But a certain part of the reform seems to advance faster than others. And we simply recall that the objective is not to reform for the symbol, but to ensure that the communes can really face this new reality. »»

A cost estimated at 400 million euros?

But concretely, how much does it take for the CPAS of cities and municipalities? For Yvan Verougstraete, it is still vague, but not completely: “The figure is not yet known, because it will depend on the number of people who will pass unemployment to integration income. But it is a lasting mechanism that we want, so not only for one, two or three years. We want this solidarity burden to be systematically well taken into account by the federal. We are talking about 400 million euros today that this transformation could cost, this limitation of unemployment over time, and which could partly be postponed to the municipalities. »»

He also specifies that, out of these 400 million, 234 million have already been obtained. As for reconfirmer that he could block this reform, the president of the committed is categorical: “It would be crazy to accept this reform, because simply putting the municipalities in front of a wall makes no sense. And today, we must be aware that local elected officials are already facing very complicated realities. »»
