On July 5 and 6, Yanis Berthoud participated in the European Critérum for young people, a race by step in Luxembourg. In just over two weeks, he continued with an appointment in Northern Macedonia, for a competition that brings together the elite of European athletes under 18 in 15 sports, including athletics, judo, swimming and of course, the road and all terrain bike.
At 15, Veveysan will take advantage of its only chance to participate in the European Youth Olympic Festiclal (EYOF) in the U17 category, since the competition is held every two years. His preparation has been complicated by an injury every time. Yanis Berthoud suffered from a fracture of the cubitus after falling during a competition in German-speaking Switzerland in mid-June.
The young runner said, however, to find good sensations since the resumption of his training. “I tried to cut well to restore myself quickly enough. We’ll see how it goes this weekend, but I think I will be ready,” he rejoices.
Due to this injury, Yanis Berthoud still had to give up the Swiss championship, one of his main objectives for the season. A difficult choice that motivates him even more for his competitions abroad. “It makes you want to do better at the Eyof! I’m going to focus 100% on this in the coming weeks to arrive in perfect conditions.”
The Châtelois aims for a victory in the background and a medal in online race. He will continue his season until October, where he plans to participate in the chrono of the Nations in the Herbiers, in Vendée.
In the discipline of mountain biking, the Swiss team aligns another Friborg for the Eyof, Aubin Favre, Romand Cyclocross champion at 14 years old.
