The family of a 19 -year -old young man killed last week in a village in the North Quebec, chose to come together with the loved ones accused of having committed the irreparable, a “sign of forgiveness” who watched over the whole community.
“Everyone knows everyone in the community. They did not want people to choose a camp, especially the youngest, ”says Harriette Ottereyes, the aunt of Nylander Ottereyes.
The young man was found inert in his room by his father on July 25. Despite all the efforts to save him, he died of injuries possibly inflicted with a stabbing weapon.

A teenager of only 17 years, which cannot be appointed because of the law on the criminal justice system for adolescents, has been accused of unpremeditated murder.
Since the drama, the 2,000 souls of the small community screaming from Waswanipi, located about three hours away from Val-d’Or, remain greatly shaken.
The pain is even more lively for the entourage of Nylander and for that of the accused, so that during the last days, the two families met at the very scene of the crime.

“This is the first time, I believe, that I see that, two families who come together in this way,” he testifies.

On Wednesday, a candle vigil was organized in memory of Nylander Ottereyes. Touching speeches have been pronounced.
“We find strength in the idea that people around us help us, knowing that they have experienced a lot in their lives. We need each other to go through, ”sums up Harriette Ottereyes.
Twice in a month
In interview with The newspapershe had only good words to Nylander, who had a whole life before him.
“He was very loving, extroverted. Even the elders of the community have a broken heart because they knew him as the boy who was still there to help when someone needed it, “describes his aunt.
It was the second event of its kind to occur in the region in July.
A 17 -year -old boy was killed with a sharp object in Nemaska, a neighboring village. Another young man has since been accused of unpremeditated murder, a few days before celebrating his 17e birthday.
“It’s difficult to explain. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s alarming. Our young people hurt and hurt others, ”deplores Randy Kitchen.
