The president of the commitments begins a facilitation mission to unlock the regional political crisis and hopes to put “oil in the cogs”. “Impossible? If I had stopped this, I would not have founded my business …”, he says. There is an emergency: “The situation is so serious that you cannot stay in the swing”.
Yvan Verougstraete begins a mission of “facilitator” in the crisis which is dragged into the Brussels region. Mission Impossible? He entrusted his feeling to trends trend.
Where does this mission of “facilitation” come from?
We have been working there for a fortnight. It has been a while since several parties tell me that it is time for the lines to move. The situation is serious.
Isn’t it dedicated to failure?
I have seen that the press was already talking about “impossible mission”. But if I had had to stop at that, I would not have founded Medi Market, I would not have started in politics, I would not have presented myself to the European Parliament … In the impossible, no one is held. The situation is so serious that you can’t stay in the arms. If I manage to put oil in the cogs, it will be positive. I want to go beyond this stage where everyone sees only the interest or not to go with one or the other. It is a question of bringing everyone back to the table at the start of a note evoking the bottom.
This is what the MR tried to do, right?
The MR has arrived with a note to their own, practically to take or leave. Here, on the contrary, I want to co-construct a positive dynamic beyond the exclusive. To get there, it can depend on small things.
But you are only supported by four parties (the committed, Groen, Vooruit and the CD&V), is it realistic?
I have already had contacts with each other. The objective is precisely to go beyond the blockages that have predominated so far between the two large ones (PS and MR – editor’s note). My goal is to be at the service of Brussels, I have no personal ambition and I am not trying to attract light. I position myself more as a Brussels citizen with a position allowing him to have a constructive impact on the situation.
The situation is serious, you say: on the budgetary level?
This is obviously the case on the budgetary plan, above all, but more broadly, the image of Brussels which is conveyed is dramatic. There are major challenges in terms of security, as has just forcefully recalled the prosecutor Julien Moinil, but also in terms of cleanliness, to live together …
Zakia Khattabi (Ecolo) said that Brussels “shoots himself in the foot” …
What is happening in Brussels is dangerous for the future of Belgium. It is the country’s economic lung, but it is also its cement. The whole national building could be questioned. In addition, 50% of regional turnover comes from international institutions. If we take care, we could lose this status as a capital of Europe. Our image degrades at a speed VV prime. I really see my mission as a duty as a citizen.
