A penitentiary agent committed suicide on Thursday at the central house in Poissy (Yvelines) and an investigation was opened to determine the reasons for his gesture, said the Versailles prosecutor’s office, called upon by AFP.
“A penitentiary agent of the service in charge of judicial extractions was killed this morning at his workplace,” said the public prosecutor, confirming information from a source close to the file.
The Keeper of the Seals Gérald Darmanin and the Director of the Penitentiary Administration (AP) Sébastien Cauwel “send their most sincere condolences to his family, his relatives and all of his colleagues,” reacted AP.
“They show them all their support and share their pain in this test. A psychological cell is made available to the staff of the establishment in order to accompany them in this particularly trying moment,” added the same source.
On the site of the UFAP-UNSA Justice union, a tribute is paid to “a faithful member” but also to “a man with a big heart”.
The man was 40 years old and had reached the rank of brigadier-chief, according to the union, for whom “he leaves behind the image of an exemplary professional, recognized and appreciated by all those who had the chance to cross his path”.
