PS6: three times more powerful, at the price of the PS5 – Sony would dare the impossible

Five years after the release of the PS5, the first solid rumors on the PlayStation 6 emerge. In a video published in early August 2025. the Youtuber Moore’s Law is Dead reveals details from a confidential presentation of AMD dating from 2023, addressed to Sony. Although the author himself invites caution (the specifications that may have evolved since). the information disclosed gives a credible idea of ps6: three times more powerful, the upcoming strategy of Sony.

PS6: leaks evoke a tripled power and a portable version in the boxes

At the heart of the PS6, an APU AMD Orion, ps6: three times more powerful, based on 8 Zen 6 cores (the next generation of CPU architecture of AMD), coupled with an IGPU RDNA 5 integrating between 40 and 48 calculation units (CUS) clocked at around 3 GHz. On paper. this would represent up to three times the power of the standard PS5 in raterization, and the double of the PS5 PRO, in particular in Ray Tracing thanks to a overhaul of the management of shaders.

On the memory side, Sony would bet on GDDR7, with a memory bus from 160 to 192 bits. We would therefore speak of a very high theoretical bandwidth (estimated at more than 800 GB/s). while limiting energy consumption to 160 Watts in total – a feat if this is confirmed. Objective: keep a compact design without sacrificing performance.

Across the Atlantic, the targeted price would remain around $ 499, exactly like the PS5 when it was ps6: three times more powerful, released. An ambition of tariff stability that Sony would have inherited from the commercial success of the PS4 (also launched at $ 399. € 399 in 2013, well below the Xbox One). But difficult to believe it completely on the European side, as recent signals say the opposite. The PS5 has indeed experienced a price increase of € 50 this year. bearing the price of the version without disk reader at € 499.99 on the old continent. Even the PS5 PRO, recently announced, is displayed at less than € 799.

And as a good heated dish, Sony would also offer complete retrocompatibility with PS4 and PS5 games.

But that’s not all. In parallel, Sony would indeed develop a portable console, code name Canis or Robin Plus. It would be based on 4 Zen 6C cores. 12 to 20 RDNA 5 CUS, with an energy envelope of barely 15 ps6: three times more powerful, W, an efficiency comparable to that of a Steam Deck Oled … but with the support of Ray Tracing and the performance estimated at half a PS5. The whole would be offered between 400 and 500 €, with a touch screen, haptic, two microphones, a microSD port, an SSD m.2 slot and a video output via USB-C.

Production scheduled for mid-2027, for an estimated outing between the end of 2027 and early ps6: three times more powerful, 2028. It remains to be seen what will face budgetary arbitrations by then.
