Eurobasket: a universe of gap between France and Switzerland

The Swiss team completed their Eurobasket ladies on Saturday in Greece by a third setback in four days. Against France, Olympic vice-champion in 2024, the protégés of François Gomez were corrected 111-37 (60-14), dominated in all sectors of play.

At the time of the drawing of the Eurobasket chickens on March 8, several Swiss players had not hidden their excitement to face France, finalist of the 2012 and 2024 Olympics.

Faced with this neighbor who can play a continental tournament without several very high level players (Gabby Williams, Marine Johannès, in particular), the Helvetians were able to realize the universe that separates the two countries, although France has only aligned five Olympic vice-championes.

Ayayi does better all alone

At the break, Valérian Ayayi (16 points) had scored more points than the whole collective of François Gomez (14). It took 15 minutes for Switzerland, thanks to Lana Wenger and Nancy Fora, managed to score on two consecutive actions.

Against the three-color basic five, Nancy Fora and others could simply not express themselves at the start of the match (17-4 at the 6th), allowing the Habs, who already needed them, to ideally enter the game. If the Swiss were then able to thwart the young opposing generation (25-9 to the 10th), the second quarter was as long as an endless day (35-5).

Short burst of pride

In the second half, Switzerland was able to raise its head and roll up its sleeves. Evita Herminjard and her teammates then managed to let go, quickly scoring 8 points (62-22, 23rd). The abyssal gap of the first period stabilized for a few minutes, before starting up, definitively.

The Swiss can draw a favorable assessment of their first two services in this Eurobasket. The third, they will prefer to forget it.
