A Brussels NGO discovers a network of sexual abuse images

A Brussels NGO alerts on a large traffic of child pornographic images broadcast via the social network X. Millions of shared content via hacked accounts redirect to Telegram or Discord for illegal sales.

The Brussels NGO Alliance4Europe filed a complaint against X, because millions of sexual abuse images are shared via the social network. The file was sent to the European Commission, the Police and the Brussels prosecutor’s office, Hln and VTM reported on Sunday.

Alliance4europe says that some hashtags on the platform refer to explicit images of children’s abuse. According to researchers, millions of messages have been disseminated since May via public publications by a network of hacked profiles and false accounts.

The network uses computer controlled accounts that divert popular hashtags, generate comments and redirect users to external platforms like Telegram and Discord. The images are then sold in cryptocurrency or by credit card.

Alliance4europe is a digital surveillance organization based in Brussels which usually studies disinformation and foreign influence. The organization discovered these facts during an investigation into Russian influence campaigns.
