Mediator helping, the strike of Air Canada on -board agents is now over. This is good news for travelers, but unfortunately, flight cancellations are still expected.
It was therefore at 4:23 am at the very early morning today that the two parties got on an agreement in principle.
« This agreement in principle will radically transform our industry after a historical struggle to assert our rights guaranteed by the Charter. We have ended unpaid work “Said the public service union representing Air Canada on -board agents.
« Negotiations were able to resume yesterday (August 18), Things have accelerated and an agreement was reached. This is very good news for travelers “Says Christophe Hennebelle, Vice-President of Communications for Air Canada.
Because following this agreement, Air Canada announced the resumption of flights today.
Other flight cancellations still expected
« The operations will be able to resume at the end of the day today, but it is estimated that the return to normal will take 7 to 10 days, said Mr. Hennebelle at the microphone of Radio-Canada this morning. “” Everyone at Air Canada is very committed to getting back as best as possible and as quickly as possible. »»
Mr. Hennebelle adds that at present, the flights that are on the schedule today August 19 are still open, or in the system. But here is what travelers must know and expect: ” We are not going to add flights, but cancel ”, announces the vice-president of communications.
For what?
“Because the plane is not there. Because the crew is not there. Because ground equipment is not available. There are lots of reasons ” he explains.
There will be more and more flights that operate as the network is recovered. It will be rolling. Because our planes are not in the right place, either our crews, so we have to rebuild the schedule. »»
So travelers with an Air Canada ticket for a flight planned today or in the coming days, must still expect to receive a notification from the carrier, which will tell them if their flight is canceled or if it is operated as planned.
The priorities of the moment
-Restablish the integrity of the network as quickly as possible
-position the crews in the right place
-Rame as quickly as possible, passenger clients who are blocked abroad
« This evening (August 19)there will be thefts, but they will be limited. And little by little, there will be more and more ” underlines Mr. Hennebelle.
It is estimated that around 25,000 travelers have had to return to the country every day in recent days. Several have found another flight aboard another carrier to return, several others could have already benefited from Air Canada aid which found another flight to them with another carrier, others are still waiting for an Air Canada solution.
Mr. Hennebelle also recalled that travelers who have not obtained a flight from Air Canada will be reimbursed by the carrier.
