Controversies around the purchase of F-35

Fighter
The Federal Council and Our army chose the F-35. This choice was proposed by professionals after a rigorous evaluation process which met all the selection criteria. The F-35 is a latest generation, versatile, agile and powerful fighting plane. The first delivery is scheduled for 2027. It is therefore utopian to want to renounce this contract, do not displease certain political parties. As a reminder, our F/A-18 acquired in 1997 arrived out of breath in 2030. The F-35 will be perfectly suited to the missions of our air forces and a good number of devices will be built in Italy.
As for the nostalgic for the burst, or the pro-European people, know that France exported its fighting aircraft to the following countries: Egypt, Qatar, India, Greece, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Croatia and Serbia. Buying contracts for the F-35 have been signed by 18 states, including eleven in Europe (United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Switzerland). By opting again for a credible, strong and operational army, Switzerland will thus avoid being the soft defense belly in Europe.
Finally concerning the cost problem, as Mr. Charles Juillard, a deputy for the Council of States, said, the ball is in the camp of the Americans. There is no doubt, if necessary, that the Federal Council will come to a reasonable agreement.
Eric Geiger, Bretigny-sur-Morrens
Thus, in the case of The purchase of F-35the Americans would claim an extension of 1.3 billion francs at the agreed price of 6.04 billion francs, or $ 6.226 billion during the day of the signing. The increase would therefore be 21.5% of the price agreed in francs, which is already enormous. Only, where the shot is even more, is that the dollar currently is no longer at 97 cents, but indeed 80 cents. The final price would therefore be increased to 7.34 billion francs or $ 9.175 billion. A 47% increase in dollars’ price at the factory! And all this for a badly born plane, full of faults that spends more time for maintenance than in working order.
Naivety, or complacency (I dare not imagine worse), our decision -makers is monumental. But for the past thirty years, we have gotten into the habit of seeing our thinking heads kneel before Uncle Sam, why would he go otherwise this time?
But we are going to find ourselves without hunting if we break the contract! I am sure that to sell 6 billion francs of planes, the French would be ready to rent us some bursts for training, while waiting to receive ours. Or, the Swedes and their gripen.
